Big Brother Match

From Mother of Little Brother Matthew:

I am writing to talk about how important Big Sisters Big Brothers is to my son and I….In short, there has been a remarkable absence of male figures in Matthew’s life.

All of that changed when Matthew was matched with a Big Brother one year ago. What a blessing it was for him to meet Andrew, and to have Andrew come into his life, bringing fun, and laughter, and a lightness of spirit that was EXACTLY what Matt needed. To have someone in his life that contacts him regularly, that takes a sincere and caring interest in him, that is reliable, and dependable, and who makes it clear by what they say and do that they truly want to spend time with him – well, that is, quite simply, one of life’s greatest treasures.

….It has been, and continues to be, a gift beyond measure for Matthew to have a Big Brother. Big Brothers are as good as gold. They are my heroes. And they are my son’s heroes, too. I can’t thank you all enough.

Big Sister Match

Little Sister Emilie’s Mother at End of Match of 8 Years

“I have a hard time to put into words what this experience has meant not only for Emilie but what the experience has brought [to] our whole family.  I call Donna “Emilie’s guardian Angel…I think that Donna gained the magic of childhood….I believe that if people like Donna exist, hopefully human beings will be better, happier, and gain a friend”

InSchool Mentoring

I have found the organization of the program to be excellent.  Those who coordinate the program are interested in meeting all requirement for accountability and success and that is appreciated….Bravo to the way the program is carried out.  Highly successful! – John Dorner, Principal, St. Anthony’s Catholic School
The feedback that I received from parents was all positive.  Often the visit with the Mentor became the topic of conversation that evening at home with the child telling the parents what special project or activity they had worked on with their Mentor.  Parents commented that their child was happier to come to school or that the Mentor had helped their child to solve or deal with a problem in a meaningful way.
– Penny Cushing, Special Education Resource Teacher, Glen Cairn Public School

What is the best thing about being a mentor?  To see your mentee’s face light up with joy when you pick them for their session.  To hear positive feedback from the mentee’s schools on how you’ve affected them.  When your mentees confide in you and tell you how much you mean to them. – Josée, Mentor from Woodroffe HS
