The objective of Reel Boys is to introduce young boys, ages 10-15 to working with the film medium, engaging them in a hands-on creative process, by providing them with access to Super 8 filmmaking training, production equipment and production supplies, towards the creation of a Super 8 short film.
Selected participants will interact with various elements of creating a Super 8 film; filmmaking/story-telling, directing, cinematography, lighting, and in-camera editing. The participants will additionally exhibit their films, at a screening to be facilitated by Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa.

IFCO is completely committed to ensuring that independent filmmaking in Ottawa is representative of a diversity of voices. It is for this reason that it continues to initiate activities which are designed to increase the awareness of film as an artistic medium. IFCO considers the provision of educational opportunities to youth, as an essential part of its commitment to propagating the film medium. Initiatives like Reel Boys provide an excellent opportunity whereby the Co-operative can connect with, and inspire an entirely new generation of filmmakers.

This project was funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Ottawa.
