Ottawa’s Newest Keg Steakhouse Raises over 6,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Monday July 10, 2006
It’s opening week for the newest Keg Steakhouse & Bar in the Ottawa region. “The new restaurant is sure to be busy,” says General Manager, Greg Selin. “For months now, we have had the Opening Soon sign out front.  The number of phone calls we’ve received has been very encouraging, and with Canada Day celebrations wrapped up, it should make for a busy first week. The staff have been training long hours over the past three weeks to ensure that the levels of service and food quality are up to the high expectations of our guests.”
As part of The Keg tradition, the restaurant has been leading up to opening day by fundraising for the community through The Keg Spirit Foundation.  This past week, to help train the staff, guests were invited to enjoy The Keg’s legendary steaks and prime rib in exchange for a $5 donation. Thanks to the generosity of the Ottawa and Hunt Club community, 6,137 was raised for the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.  “They are such a great fit for the Keg,” said Jay Crossman the Keg franchisee, referring to Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa. “The Keg has been a mentor to so many young people over the past 35 years, and we know that Big Brothers Big Sisters completely understands the difference that mentoring can make in the life of a child.”
The new Keg is located on Hunt Club Road directly across from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.  “We are delighted to be able to build a brand new restaurant which reflects The Keg’s newest décor. Guests will have the added option to dine fireside outdoors on our patio, or enjoy dinner or snacks and some of the Keg’s legendary cocktails in our spectacular bar.  We are sure that our guests will love our new restaurant.”
The 8000 sq. ft., 296-seat contemporary-yet-comfortable restaurant & bar, combines natural stone with warm wood tones, clean architectural lines and a spacious atmosphere that feels cozy and private.
Since inception in 2001, The Keg Spirit Foundation has proudly raised more than $2 million for North American charities. In addition to restaurant promotions, The Keg Spirit Foundation raises funds through the sale of Keg branded products in Canada, new restaurant opening initiatives, and fundraising programs at individual Keg locations.
Established in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1971, The Keg Steakhouse & Bar has grown into a family of 90 restaurants across Canada and the United States.
Managed by Greg Selin, the Hunt Club Keg Steakhouse & Bar is open for dinner at 4:00 p.m. seven days a week.  To contact the restaurant directly, call 613.248.0509  For more information on The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, please visit www.kegsteakhouse.com.
