Tribuddy is a new program initiative for 2011. The program matches volunteer adult triathletes with youth between the ages of 9-15 to foster a positive and fun triathlon learning experience. The program was launched in the spring as a pilot project and will run through the summer, ending in September. For the pilot project, 6 volunteers and 6 youth were recruited for participation. They will be meeting once a week for 2-4 hours where the activities are focused on running, swimming and biking. Once a month, they will meet in a group along with the Tribuddy organizers and Greg Kealey, coach of the Bytown Storm to get instruction on key aspects of training for a triathlon. We have been very fortunate to receive amazing support from the following sponsors: Specialized is pleased to be a strong supporter of the Tribuddy Program. euro-sportsis repairing and maintaining bikes, at no cost, throughout the summer. Sports 4 / New Balance has stepped up to offer equipment to all our Youth Buddies including running shoes, swim goggles, bathing caps, technical shirts/shorts, socks, and water bottles. Through various financial donations safety and other equipment (eg. bells, lights, bottles, pedals, etc) has also been purchased, as necessary.
We thank these sponsors and donors for their generous support.
