Other Mentoring Programs

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa has other mentoring programs available to meet the unique needs of our community. Some of the programs being offered in our community include:

Couples for Kids

The Couples for Kids Program matches a Little with a responsible adult couple so that they can experience the benefits of mentoring from a caring and respectful adult relationship. Couples should be at least 20 years of age and should have been together for a minimum of 1 year.

Buddy Up

Our Buddy Up program is a one-on-one mentoring relationship between a female volunteer (18 years of age and older) who is matched with a boy (aged 6-16). Our Bigs and Littles spend 2-4 hours a week together doing any activity they have planned for their outing. These activities include anything from playing sports, to watching films, to baking, to learning a new instrument! The sky is the limit! By becoming a Buddy Up Big, you will make a great friend with a Little, and you will both be forever changed by the experience.

Meet You In School

Senior high school and college students completing coop/placement are matched with elementary school children aged 7 – 11 who are in need of a positive teenage role model. This mentoring program takes place at the school of the Little and runs during the school year. The Meet You In School Bigs build trusting friendships with their littles and help them open doors to new opportunities. Training is provided to all Bigs prior to beginning and they are supervised by a BBBSO staff throughout their placement.

Tribuddy

The program matches volunteer adult triathletes (Adult Buddy) with youth between the ages of 8-14 (Youth Buddy) to foster a positive and fun triathlon learning experience. Youth Buddies will learn the fundamentals of triathlon, participate in sessions of swimming, biking and running, and, if they choose, may race in an age appropriate triathlon near the end of the summer.

Each match meets once a week for 2-4 hours where the activities are focused on running, swimming and biking. Once a month, a group meeting is organized, where matches get instruction from coaches and experts on key aspects of training for a triathlon.  The group meetings are schedule near the Britannia Area near Andrew Haydon Park.

Our Enrollment for Tribuddy is currently closed but check back next Spring for more details.
