In 2012, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa (BBBSO) renewed our commitment to continue to offer Ottawa’s best mentorship programs. To ensure the sustainability of our programs, we restructured the way we deliver our services.

We divided the city into 5 regions to allow for one Mentoring Coordinator per region, as opposed to one Mentoring Coordinator per program. This now allows us to be more strategic in the recruitment of volunteers and program implementation. This structure also helps us to identify potential partners in a given region to potentially expand our programs, whilst providing economies of scales in areas like our transportation costs. All of these changes are important factors to ensure long term sustainability.

As a result of this restructuring, our Mentoring Coordinators become more experienced in their region and they are able to more easily identify new opportunities as well as upcoming challenges. This is how we are able to assess growth capacity and offer strategic and focus support to one region at a time versus another. This allows for much more potential growth in a consolidated effort.
