Mentor Support Training
Learn How to Help Children and Youth
BBBSO is constantly evolving thanks to your feedback. We now offer a Connect, Share, Learn, and Grow for Little’s group for all mentors who are currently working in a match.
As an agency serving at-risk youth in Ottawa, we are always learning new ways to support the children and youth we want to help. As a mentor, you have a tremendous impact in the life of a Little, and we are so thankful for the difference you make in a Little’s life.
Connect and Share
Over the years, our BIGS have asked for help in supporting their Littles. Through their challenges and successes, they are constantly looking for ways to improve. They also have requested a platform to share their own experiences and stories.
Our training modules are a great way for you to connect and network with other BIGS. Every three months, we rotate the following three training programs to give our BIGS some support:
- Advocacy and Goal Setting with Mentees: Strength-Based Approach, Closure, and Termination of a Match
- How Mentoring can Support Mentees with Mental Health Issues and Substance Abuse Difficulties
- Managing Children: Challenging Behaviours and Effective Strategies Paired with Learning Styles
It is our goal to make sure you have the tools you need to connect, share, learn, and grow for our Littles. These three training modules help you do just that.
Safe and Successful Mentoring
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa is part of the bigger picture! Our national team has mandatory standards that are regularly revised using your feedback, creating stronger screening processes and continuing to provide safe and successful mentoring to children and youth in need.
