Donate Clothing in Ottawa to Help Support Mentoring

Frustrated with old clothes filling your closets? Don’t throw them out! Your donation of used clothes can help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa mentorship programs.

How it Works

Every pound of used clothing donated to one of our Big Purple Bins helps generate income for our programs. We’re able to do this thanks to the continued support of our amazing partners in the community. Funds raised through our Clothes For Kids’ Sake campaign directly support our programs.

The Goal

We’ve set a goal to collect 300,000 lbs of clothing by the end of 2018. While that might seem like a lot, consider this: North America alone tosses over 26 billion pounds of textiles and used clothing into landfills. Many people think it’s easier to chuck old clothes than it is to donate them to charity.

But imagine just how big an impact a fraction of that number could make! Mentoring makes a difference, and we know that for every dollar invested in these programs, $18 is returned to society. At-risk children in mentorship programs get improvements to their mental health, employment opportunities, and civic engagement.

So don’t throw pants that don’t fit in the trash… drop them in a Big Purple Bin instead!

Schedule a Clothing Pick-Up

Through funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, BBBSO has purchased a truck, which will allow us to continue to pick up clothing from our bins in a more efficient way, as well as offer door-to-door pick-ups. With this new system in place, we expect to meet our year-end goal.

It’s not just clothes! BBBSO also accepts shoes, accessories, textiles, toys, books and small household items.
