Carlo knows the impact of mentorship because he lived it. As a former Little Brother with BBBSO, he grew up part of the organization, helping shape the person he became. A CIBC Youth Vision Scholarship recipient, Carlo credits that support with opening the door to university and his first work placements, the kind of foundation that changes the direction of a young person’s life. For him, mentoring isn’t an abstract cause, it’s the reason he’s had the opportunities he’s had, and joining the Board is his way of keeping that same door open for the next generation of Ottawa youth.
Carlo works in labour market policy and industrial strategy with the federal government, where he spends his days thinking about how people get access to the tools they need to succeed in a changing economy, a lens he brings directly to BBBSO’s work on youth and workforce readiness.
For Carlo, ensuring equal access to these tools isn’t just a policy goal, it’s personal. Growing up as the son of an immigrant and being raised across diverse communities, he saw firsthand how much harder people have to work for the same opportunities, and how much a single door opened at the right time can change everything. That’s part of why his own story with BBBSO means so much to him. Trilingual in English, French, and Spanish, he stays closely tied to his Mexican roots and brings that perspective to how he shows up for others and the perspective he brings to the Board.
Outside of work, Carlo is an avid soccer fan and recreational player, a food lover with a passion for Mexican cuisine, and a vinyl collector always on the hunt for the next record. He lives in Ottawa with his wife, Hannah.
