Big Steps to Success Mentoring Program

GUIDED BY EXPERIENCE, EMPOWERED FOR THE FUTURE

Mentoring a young person in the Big Steps to Success program gives you the opportunity to provide guidance and support to youth aged 6-24 who have experienced foster care or adoption. As a mentor, you will be a role model and friend. Someone who shares a similar child welfare experience—who truly understands their journey—helping young people navigate challenges, and discover their potential.

As a mentor, you will be part of a program that strives to:

  • Provide a relatable role model and a supportive friend who understands the complexities of being fostered or adopted;
  • Promote the value of education, emotional resilience, and healthy relationships;
  • Build self-confidence, trust, and the skills to navigate life’s challenges and make empowered decisions;
  • Inspiring leadership, personal growth and the ability to make choices that shape their future;
  • Above all, creating lasting change and meaningful connections that foster healing and hope.

Many of our mentors describe this experience as life changing—not just for the young people they mentor, but for themselves as well.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Big Steps to Success mentoring program requires one regularly scheduled outing per week (lasting 2 to 4 hours), with a minimum commitment of one year.

These consistent meetups allow you to strengthen your relationship with your mentee, and support their growth with trust and shared experiences. Mentors are supported throughout the process by experienced caseworkers, ensuring your success every step of the way.

We thank you for your interest. Starting April 27th, 2026, volunteer enrolment will be closed until further notice. We will focus on intentionally matching volunteers and children who are currently on our waitlist.
