Before being matched with a young person, every mentor completes a comprehensive screening process that includes an application, interviews, reference checks, and a vulnerable sector police record check. This careful process helps ensure that every volunteer is prepared to build a safe, supportive, and positive mentoring relationship.

Matching goes beyond availability—we take the time to understand each young person’s personality, interests, goals, and unique needs, as well as each mentor’s strengths, experiences, and preferences. Ongoing Training and Support
Once a match is made, the journey is just beginning. Mentors receive training, resources, and ongoing guidance from BBBSO staff throughout the life of the match. Regular check-ins with mentors, families, and young people help ensure everyone feels supported and has access to assistance whenever it’s needed.
